Woman found face-down on beach in Newport was slain

A 20-year-old woman found face-down in the sand in Newport Beach in March was the victim of a homicide, officials say.

The Orange County Coroner office determined that Tina Hoang was slain but declined to reveal the exact cause of death, Newport Beach police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe said Tuesday.

An investigation is ongoing.

The coroner’s report did not change the scope of the police investigation, which Newport Beach detectives investigated as a suspicious death from the start, Lowe said.

Hoang’s body was discovered March 4 in the sand near West Oceanfront and Highland Street.

At the time of her death, Hoang was a recent mother who faced prostitution charges in Orange and Los Angeles counties, as well as out-of-state charges.

Lowe said no further information would be released to maintain the integrity of the investigation.
