A Valencia man was arrested on suspicion of mayhem Monday for allegedly shooting a female photographer in the eye with a BB gun in an apparent road-rage incident in Stevenson Ranch.

The 22-year-old woman underwent seven hours of surgery on her right eye following the Saturday night shooting, which occurred after the alleged gunman tried to ram her car as she and her boyfriend were leaving a Walmart, authorities said.

The suspect trailed the woman’s car to the intersection of the Old Road and Pico Canyon Road, where he opened fire with a BB gun, striking her in the face, said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Cory Flenory, a 28-year-old parolee, was taken into custody shortly before 8 a.m. Monday after detectives identified him as the suspect behind the wheel of the compact car involved in the incident, Dubin said. Flenory and the woman did not know each other, he said.

Dubin said Flenory kicked out the window of a sheriff’s cruiser as deputies arrested him in the 28100 block of McBean Parkway, forcing them to use pepper spray to gain control.

Flenory was captured on the Walmart security camera system entering and leaving the store about a half-hour before the woman left the store, authorities said.
