Worker killed in accident at new 49ers stadium, official says
A worker died in an accident Tuesday at the construction site of the San Francisco 49ers’ new stadium in Santa Clara, a city spokesman said.
Few details were immediately available about the accident, which occurred about 6:45 a.m. and involved an elevator. Santa Clara spokesman Dan Beerman said.
The worker was a subcontractor employed by Turner-Devcon, the project’s general contractor, Beerman said.
An investigation into the incident was still underway. Workers have been sent home for the day, KRON-TV reported.
The $1.3-billion Silicon Valley stadium is scheduled to open for the 2014 NFL season, and will host the Super Bowl in 2016.
