Long Beach police fatally shoot armed suspect
Long Beach police fatally shot a suspect early Sunday after he brandished a handgun during a confrontation, authorities said.
The incident occurred about 12:20 a.m. when officers were dispatched to a neighborhood near the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Butler Avenue after receiving reports of a man with a gun, police said.
After an officer spotted the suspect, he took off running, police said. At some point during the pursuit, the suspect produced a handgun and police shot him in the upper body, authorities said.
The unidentified suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said. As with all officer-involved shootings, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office will conduct an independent investigation of the incident.
