Brush fire in Santa Clarita burns 80 acres, threatens structures
A brush fire has burned 80 acres east of Castaic Lake in Santa Clarita, destroying at least one structure and threatening others.
The fire, dubbed the Bee fire, was first spotted shortly after 5 p.m. Friday in the 35700 block of San Francisquito Canyon Road. Television footage showed one structure in flames, and firefighters are using water drops to protect other buildings.
The fire is burning close to power lines, said Cheryl Sims, a supervising dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. There is zero containment.
San Francisquito Canyon Road is closed between the Santa Clarita Valley and Antelope Valley areas, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The weather will be key in containing the fire. Friday night’s low is expected to be 55 degrees, with humidity of 60% to 70% and southwest winds of 6 to 12 mph, with gusts up to 18 mph.
