Loyola Marymount to celebrate new yoga master’s program
Loyola Marymount University officials and students will hold a celebration Saturday to commemorate the school’s new master’s of arts program in yoga studies.
Nineteen students are enrolled in the two-year program, which includes language, anatomy and yoga instruction classes. The school has been offering yoga-related courses in its extension school for more than a decade, but the master’s program is the first graduate-level course in the country, Loyola officials believe.
About 40 students applied to the program, which costs about $1,000 a unit.
“We were delighted at the number of people who were interested,” said Christopher Key Chapple, a theology professor at the university.
The celebration will begin at noon at the school’s campus near Playa del Rey and will include lectures, classes and discussions.
