Letters: Scouting’s tolerance test

Share

Re “Bill targets gay ban by Boy Scouts,” April 11

I am astonished that the physician who testified in front of state lawmakers, citing his experience of being molested by an older Boy Scout, would somehow slide right down the slippery slope to the conclusion that the Boy Scouts is in danger because gay Scouts or Scout leaders are probably child molesters.

It leaves me wondering how the Boy Scouts of America could consider itself the arbiter of “morality” when the organization cannot distinguish between homosexuality and pedophilia.

We cannot seem to educate ourselves sufficiently to lift the cloud of discrimination that hangs over this country. Perhaps Scouts should be required to earn a patch for practicing tolerance and inclusion. Then I would support the group’s tax-exempt status.
