Letters: Why only go after pensions?

Share

Re “Civic leaders urge pension overhaul,” Aug. 16

Wouldn’t it be nice if the “business leaders” offering suggestions on how to improve city finances by cutting pensions were as vocal in supporting Gov. Jerry Brown’s Proposition 30 tax hike on the wealthy? We haven’t heard much support from them on that initiative that would help finance public education.

And while they are at it, they could come out strongly opposed to seeking tax breaks for the mega real estate developments in downtown Los Angeles and Hollywood — and everywhere else where their lobbyists are actively working to implement special-interest subsidies.

Why don’t these leaders just call for a committee on making sure that everyone pays his or her fair share?
