Letters: Bears will be bears

Re “Bear with cub attacks woman,” Oct. 20

Here they go again.

An Ojai woman was attacked by a bear while walking her dogs during the early morning. Fortunately, she received only minor injuries, and the bear scurried off. However, the California Department of Fish and Game says the bear will be euthanized if captured. The bear was with her young cub; clearly, the animal’s actions were in protection of the cub. This is what bears in the wild do in defense of their young. What possible threat does that bear now pose?

Sadly, Fish and Game reacts as it typically does when humans encroach into wildlife’s domain: It will euthanize the bear if it is captured. What’s the point of that?
