Doc Rivers on spat with Mark Cuban over DeAndre Jordan: ‘We’re both wasting time’

Mark Cuban recently told Fox Sports radio that if Doc Rivers hadn’t re-signed DeAndre Jordan, Rivers’ career would have been over.

At Clippers’ media day on Friday, Rivers was asked whether that was true, and if he had a Plan B if the center had chosen to leave.

Joked Rivers: “No, I would’ve quit.”

Cuban and Rivers have been involved in a verbal sparring match of sorts since Jordan reneged on his verbal commitment to sign with the Mavericks, instead choosing to return to the Clippers.

Rivers criticized Cuban for complaining that Jordan didn’t call him when he changed his mind, arguing that when Jordan initially chose to leave the Clippers, Rivers didn’t complain that Jordan hadn’t phoned him. Cuban retaliated by saying that Rivers, a championship-winning coach in 2008, would have been a non-entity had Jordan left the Clippers.

When asked Friday whether the rivalry between the two men is good for the the NBA, Rivers said it’s pretty immaterial for both teams.

“Listen, Mark is an owner; I’m a coach,” Rivers said. “Unless we’re going to play a one-on-one, or something, or get in a cage match — which you guys can all sponsor — I’m good with either one of those. I don’t think it really matters. I think it’s more him talking and me talking. We’re both wasting time.”
