Andre Ethier out with back stiffness

Share

The Dodgers scratched outfielder Andre Ethier from their Saturday lineup after he complained of what the team called “mild mid-back stiffness” during batting practice.

The Dodgers listed his status as day-to-day.

Ethier also reported back stiffness during the Dodgers’ first full-squad workout this spring. He left the field to receive treatment and returned to the workout.

Ethier has five hits in his first eight Cactus League at-bats. He has reported no problems with his surgically repaired right knee.

The Dodgers will pay Ethier $10.95 million this season, and he is eligible for free agency thereafter.

Ethier made his second consecutive All-Star appearance last year. He hit .311 with nine home runs before the All-Star break last season, then .252 with two home runs in an injury-interrupted second half.
