Baseball: Chino Hills outlasts Pacifica, 5-4, in 11 innings

Chino Hills and Gardena Grove Pacifica engaged in a Southern Section Division 2 second-round playoff game on Tuesday that wouldn’t end. It went into the 11th inning, when Chino Hills loaded the bases and finally scored the winning run on an error to pull out a 5-4 victory.

Israel Fuentes and Quintin Cardenas each had three hits for Chino Hills.

Top-seeded Great Oak defeated Paso Robles, 9-4. Logan Morrison went three for three and Mitchell Hayes added four hits. Sophomore Zack Noll struck out eight and walked none in six innings.

La Mirada rallied to knock off Glendora, 4-2. Placentia Valencia defeated Vista Murrieta, 4-3. Ryan Lynch had two hits and three RBIs in Crescenta Valley’s 7-2 win over Redlands East Valley. Brian Gadsby picked up his second playoff win with a complete-game performance on the mound.

In Division 3, Andrew Bash, who threw a no-hitter on Friday, hit two home runs and also came in to pitch Palm Desert past Loara, 7-3. Quart Hill defeated Downey, 2-1, behind Clayton Rabiej, who allowed five hits and also drove in both runs. Peninsula knocked off Santa Monica, 7-2.

Warren won its 15th consecutive game with a 4-1 win over Diamond Bar. Alan Trejo gave up four hits and struck out seven. Trej, Steven Nuno, Joaquin Castillo and Junior Ruiz all had two hits.

Bishop Amat defeated Orange, 4-3, with Scott Hurst getting two strikeouts in the seventh for the save. He also had a triple and double. Pinch hitter Nick Valdez drove in the go-ahead run to cap a three-run rally.

In Division 4, Oaks Christian defeated San Marino, 2-1. Riely Helland struck out nine. Tyson Quolas and Chris Davis each had two hits. Malibu overcame a 5-0 deficit to defeat Flintridge Prep, 6-5. Ezra Allen had a walk-off hit in the seventh.

In Division 6, Sierra Canyon defeated Sage Hill, 7-0. Jackson Ramey threw a three-hitter. Jake Fried had two hits and Zach Tavelman had three RBIs.
