Baseball: It’s the final week of the regular season for Southern Section teams
The final week of the regular season in Southern Section baseball begins this week with league titles still at stake and playoff spots still on the line.
One of the best races is in the Palomares League, where Glendora (9-4) and South Hills (8-4-1) are set to end the season with a two-game series Tuesday at South Hills and Thursday at Glendora. Bonita (7-5) and Ayala (7-5) are right behind.
In the Foothill League, Hart (10-2-1) and Saugus (9-3-1) end their season with a two-game series starting Tuesday at Saugus and Thursday at Hart.
In the Mission League, Alemany (7-3) and Loyola (7-3) are trying to join Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (9-3) as co-champs. They meet in a two-game series starting Tuesday at Alemany and Thursday at Loyola. Alemany has beaten Notre Dame twice, so a sweep would give the Warriors the top seed from the Mission League for the Division 1 playoffs.
With teams needing to finish third or better in six-team leagues to qualify for the playoffs, it’s nervous time. In the Trintiy League, JSerra (8-2-1) has locked up a playoff spot. But the rest of the spots will be decided after three-game series this week.
