Boys’ basketball: Brentwood is preparing to offer Sierra Canyon competition
Even though Chatsworth Sierra Canyon is expected to be one of the top five basketball teams in the state this winter, the Trailblazers still could receive competition in the Alpha League from Brentwood.
The Eagles have beaten Compton and Price in fall basketball.
Maxwell Kupchak, a 6-foot-7 senior, got lots of experience last season going against Sierra Canyon’s Ira Lee and Cody Riley. Guards Ountae Campbell and Andrew Gardiner (committed to Wesleyan), along with 6-8 Harvard-Westlake transfer Nick Medavoy, give Brentwood some good weapons.
The problem is few teams in the state will have a better starting five than Sierra Canyon, and if the Trailblazers stay focused and healthy, they aren’t going to be losing too many games.
