Everyone knows that No. 2-ranked Etiwanda’s best player is USC-bound point guard Jordan McLaughlin, but there’s another blossoming talent on the Eagles team, and his name is Kameron Edwards.

A year ago, he injured his ankle right before the season began and was forced to play junior varsity. He was in the stands watching Etiwanda win the Southern Section Division IAA championship.

“It kind of hurt not being part of it, but it made me want to work harder,” he said.

Edwards, a 6-foot-5 junior, is making up for lost time. He’s emerging as a standout for the Eagles (6-0). He had 20 points on Monday in Etiwanda’s 63-32 victory over Citrus Valley in an opening game of the Inland Empire Classic.

His versatility and ability to go inside or outside comes through loud and clear. Coach Dave Kleckner is confident Edwards is on his way to becoming a college prospect.

“I know i just have to work hard and come back and have a big year and that’s what I’m trying to do,” he said.

Edwards wants the opportunity that last season’s team experienced _ to play for a Southern Section championsip.

“I was really happy for them, but at the same time, I want that, too,” he said.
