On Wednesday morning, Oaks Christian football Coach Bill Redell was acting like he had just pitched in a baseball game.

“I have ice on my arm,” he said by phone from his Westlake Village home.

On Tuesday night, the 73-year-old Redell was at Dodger Stadium throwing out the first pitch prior to the Dodgers’ game against the Giants.

“It was fun,” he said. “Everybody was so nice. Tommy Lasorda was really nice. It was very enjoyable. The Dodgers make you feel very welcome.”

Redell, who’s won eight Southern Section football championships during his coaching career, was once a three-time All-CIF baseball player during his days at San Marino in the 1950s.

He had practiced throwing the baseball last week, and his throw from off the mound made it into the catcher’s mitt.

Now it’s back to reality. He’s coaching the Lions on Friday against Birmingham. And icing his arm.
