Saturday’s City Section coaches’ meeting provided an opportunity to talk to lots of coaches about their football teams as they prepare to start official practices on Monday.
First up is a conversation with Eastern League rivals Garfield and Roosevelt.
Garfield has become a lot stronger athleticially, led by receiver Cleo Session, quarterback Stevie Williams and defensive back Marquis Williams. Junior linebacker Joseph Silva is coming off a huge sophomore season.
Roosevelt will be relying on a veteran offensive line and is moving Sammy Hernandez to quarterback.
Garfield opens on the road against San Clemente on Aug. 29. Roosevelt plays at Fairfax on Aug. 28.
