Football: Oaks Christian is turning loose its class of 2019
Zach Charbonnet is part of Oaks Christian’s talented sophomore class.
They won’t need to pass around a shaver at Oaks Christian football practice considering the number of sophomores who could be starting this season.
Coach Jim Benkert raved about his freshmen players last season and now they’re sophomores getting a chance to perhaps start on varsity.
“I’m really happy with the development of our sophomore class,” Benkert said Monday.
One of the most impressive sophomores has been Josh Calvert, younger brother of junior linebacker Bob Calvert. He’s playing safety and serving as a backup quarterback to Matt Corral.
The Lions figure to start two sophomores at cornerback in Zach Charbonnet and Michael Jackson. Defensive lineman Reese Silofau was a standout as a freshman. There’s also receiver Mycah Pittman, brother of USC receiver Michael Pittman. Another sophomore to watch is receiver/linebacker Connor Beautrow.
Oaks Christian opens its season at home next weekend against Chaminade.
