Track: Sophomore Daniel Kamulali of Chatsworth lets everyone know he’s fast
Sophomore runs 10.70 100 meters at City Section prelims
People who saw the Chatsworth High football team play last fall know how fast receiver-defensive back Daniel Kamulali is when he has a football.
But the sophomore gave everyone a clear view of his tremendous speed on Thursday at the City Section track and field prelims at Birmingham. He ran a personal best 10.70 seconds to lead qualifiers in the 100 meters.
“I was nervous,” he said. “My coach told me to push.”
If he wins next Thursday’s finals, he’ll be able to call himself the fastest runner in the City Section. That should help him during the football season, with college scouts recognizing his speed.
Carson showed off depth and talent in the girls’ ranks. The 4 x 100 relay team won in 46.05, with junior Kaelin Roberts the anchor legs. Roberts also won her specialty, the 400, in 55.66, to lead qualifiers. Sophomore Jonon Young had the best long jump at 18-8.
Kenyla Miles of Carson won the 100 in 12.14.
Another top boys runner was Paul Luevano of Venice. The City Section cross country champion cruised to a time of 4:15.65 in the 1,600.
