Los Alamitos will hold a 12-day thoroughbred meeting beginning Thursday that features two Grade I events for 2-year-olds.

The $300,000 Starlet for fillies will be held on Dec. 12 and the $350,000 Los Alamitos Futurity will take place on Dec. 19.

Both races are important preps for prestigious 3-year-old stakes in the year ahead. Dortmund won last year’s Futurity, beating Firing Line, and Firing Line and Dortmund ended up second and third behind American Pharoah in the Kentucky Derby. Take Charge Brandi ended up the champion 2-year-old filly after her win in the Starlet.

Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert has won the Futurity seven times. It was previously run at Hollywood Park.

Racing will take place Thursday through Sunday. First post is 12:30 p.m.

Parking is free. General admission is $3.

It’s the final thoroughbred meeting in Southern California before Santa Anita begins its winter meeting the day after Christmas with two Grade I races, the Malibu and La Brea Stakes.
