Rangers’ Adrian Beltre is put on disabled list

Third baseman Adrian Beltre on Saturday was put on the 15-day disabled list by the Texas Rangers because of a hamstring strain.

The Rangers recalled infielder Chris Davis from triple-A Round Rock to take Beltre’s place on the roster.

Beltre suffered the injury Friday against Toronto.

Marlins send Volstad to minors

Right-hander Chris Volstad was optioned by the Florida Marlins to triple-A New Orleans.

Volstad (5-8) gave up four runs, three earned, in five innings against the New York Mets on Friday. That lifted his earned-run average to 5.58, third highest in the major leagues.

Manager Jack McKeon said he anticipated Volstad would rejoin the rotation this season.

Blue Jays designated Reyes for assignment

Left-hander Jo-Jo Reyes was designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays, who purchased the contract of Wil Ledezma from triple-A Las Vegas.

Reyes was 5-8 with a 5.40 ERA in 20 starts. He gave up fewer than four runs only twice in his last eight starts.

Orioles’ Scott ends season

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Luke Scott abandoned his effort to play through a torn labrum and put an end to his season because he was no longer able to swing the bat effectively.

Scott, 33, will decide in the next few days whether to have surgery.
