USC football: Assistant Tee Martin considers offer from Tennessee

USC receivers coach Tee Martin, who quarterbacked Tennessee’s 1998 national championship team, has been offered a spot on the Volunteers’ staff, he told the Tennessean newspaper.

Martin and his family were in Knoxville, Tenn., on Monday. He told the newspaper he would return to Los Angeles on Tuesday to consider an offer from new Volunteers Coach Butch Jones that was made Saturday.

“We’ll see what happens,” he told The Tennessean’s Evan Woodbery. “Today was more about getting to know each other.”

Martin did not return phone calls seeking comment.

After Jones was hired last week, Martin, 34, was asked about the possibility of hearing from Tennessee.

“That’s where I went to school, that’s my alma mater, that’s always home for me,” Martin told The Times. “If the opportunity presented itself, at that time, we deal with it. But as of right now, nothing has happened.”

At USC, Martin worked with a group that included record-setting Marqise Lee, who caught a nation-leading 112 passes, including 14 for touchdowns. Lee won the Biletnikoff Award and finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy balloting.

Robert Woods, a 2011 All-American, caught 73 passes, 11 for touchdowns, this season.
