Nick Foles breaks hand; Michael Vick likely to start for Eagles

Michael Vick will likely start for the Philadelphia Eagles in their regular-season finale because an MRI has revealed that rookie Nick Foles, who replaced Vick as the starting quarterback in Week 10, has suffered a broken hand.

“There’s a pretty good chance Michael will be the starter,” Coach Andy Reid said, according to PhiladelphiaEagles.com. “That’s what we’re looking at right now. That’s the direction I’m going as we speak right now.”

Foles suffered the injury during the first half of the Eagles’ 27-20 loss to the Washington Redskins, but returned to finish the game after an X-ray failed to show the severity of the injury.

An MRI later detected a hairline fracture.

Foles has gone 1-5 as the Eagles starter after taking over for Vick, who started nine games for Philadelphia before suffering a concussion against the Dallas Cowboys in a game the team ultimately lost, 38-23.

Reid said he’s spoken to Vick and said the four-time Pro Bowl quarterback will be “ready to go” against the N.Y. Giants in East Rutherford, N.J.

Reid himself might also need to be “ready to go” after Sunday’s game. Team owner Jeffrey Lurie announced before the season began that an 8-8 season would be “unacceptable.” The Eagles are 4-11 heading into Week 17.

While no official announcement has been made, Reid could be making his final coaching appearance for the Eagles after 14 seasons with the team.
