Stanley Cup Final: Anze Kopitar gives Kings 2-0 lead

Share

A little tic-tac-toe gave the Kings a 2-0 lead 15 minutes 7 seconds into the second period at Staples Center.

Anze Kopitar connected with a pass to Dustin Brown, who chipped the puck on to Justin Williams. Brown got the puck back and found Kopitar streaking down the ice. Kopitar chipped the puck past goaltender Martin Brodeur.

Dwight King scored the Kings’ first goal on a pass from Trevor Lewis. King managed to slip to the net with the puck, but Brodeur smothered the shot. King continued to the net and kept whacking at the puck until he got his sixth goal of the playoffs.

Brodeur complained to referees that the whistle should have been blown.

New Jersey has never won a Stanley Cup Final game in Southern California, going 0-3 against the Ducks in 2003.
