Graeme McDowell, Bubba Watson among early leaders in World Challenge
Defending winner Graeme McDowell and Bubba Watson were among several players tied for the early lead in Thursday’s first round of the Northwestern Mutual World Challenge in Thousand Oaks.
McDowell was one under par through 10 holes at the par-72 Sherwood Country Club. Also one under were Watson, Zach Johnson, Hunter Mahan, Bill Haas, Steve Stricker, Matt Kuchar, Jason Dufner and Keegan Bradley.
The tournament benefits the charities of Tiger Woods, and Woods -- a five-time winner of the event -- was one shot behind the leaders at even par.
McDowell, a Northern Ireland native who also won the tournament in 2010, birdied the first two holes along with the par-five fifth hole. But he made bogeys at the fourth and eighth holes.
