Kings give Dustin Brown eight-year extension

The Kings on Thursday signed captain Dustin Brown to an eight-year, $47-million contract extension through the 2021-22 season.
Brown, 28, has been a King throughout his nine-year NHL career and the captain since 2008 and helped lift the Kings to the Stanley Cup finals, where the team defeated New Jersey in 2012.
The 2009 NHL All-Star has appeared in 50 playoff games with the team and has 388 points with 452 penalty minutes in 641 regular season games, with 25 game-winning goals.
He was also a 2010 U.S. Olympian.
Brown was already signed through the 2013-14 season.
The move solidifies the core of a team that advanced to this year’s Western Conference finals.
Brown, goalie Jonathan Quick, forwards Jeff Carter and Mike Richards and defensemen Drew Doughty and Slava Voynov are all signed through at least the 2018-19 season.
Another $40 million-plus is invested in Anze Kopitar, Justin Williams, Robyn Regehr and Jarret Stoll through at least the next two seasons.
Brown will comment on the extension later Thursday.
