Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons agreed to terms on a five-year contract extension.

A person familiar with the situation said Ryan’s extension is for $103.75 million, with $59 million guaranteed. The person said Ryan will average $20.75 million during the first three years of the extension. The person spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the terms of the deal had not been announced.

Ryan, 28, is entering the sixth and final season of his original rookie contract and will earn a $10-million salary.

Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is holding what authorities have said is a gun in several surveillance photos that were released Thursday and had been recorded hours before — and minutes after — his friend was shot to death.

The photos, taken from Hernandez’s home surveillance system, are in more than 100 pages of court records released by Attleboro (Mass.) District Court. Prosecutors have previously described the photos in court and in affidavits, but this is the public’s first look at images showing Hernandez holding a gun before and after the killing of Odin Lloyd.

All-Pro receiver A.J. Green twisted his left knee while trying to make a sideline catch during the Cincinnati Bengals’ first practice of training camp, then walked to the trainer’s room for treatment.

“I think he’s fine,” Coach Marvin Lewis said. “They went inside just so they can take a look, but I think he’s fine.”

Washington Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said that it will take two to three weeks to get Robert Griffin III into full football shape and that it “doesn’t make sense” to play the quarterback in any exhibitions.

Federer upset in second round

Roger Federer lost to a low-ranked opponent for the third straight tournament, his new and larger racket failing him in a 6-3, 6-4 defeat by Germany’s Daniel Brands in the second round of the Swiss Open at Gstaad.

Playing on clay and in front of home fans, Federer was troubled by the serve and big forehand of his 55th-ranked opponent. Federer’s other losses in the last month were to players ranked No. 116 (Sergiy Stakhovsky, at Wimbledon) and No. 114 (Federico Delbonis, at Hamburg, Germany).

Brendan Steele topped the Canadian Open leaderboard at seven-under-par 65, birdieing five of the first seven holes on his back nine at Oakville.

Matt Kuchar, a two-time winner this year, was a stroke back along with Scott Gardiner and Scott Brown. Kuchar eagled the par-five 18th hole, his ninth hole of the day.

Hunter Mahan and David Lingmerth shot 67, and Chez Reavie, the 2008 winner at Glen Abbey, was another stroke back in a group that included Bubba Watson and Trevor Immelman.
