USC football: Josh Shaw takes leading role in the secondary

USC cornerback Josh Shaw was not shy about gesturing to fans during USC’s 31-14 victory over Oregon State on Friday night at Reser Stadium.

“I really wanted the DBs to just step up to the challenge,” Shaw said on the field after the game. “So I kind of wanted to come out here and be the guy that set the tempo, just hoping they would feed off me.”

Shaw intercepted a pass by Oregon State quarterback Sean Mannion in the end zone to thwart a first-half threat. He then watched as safety Dion Bailey and cornerback Kevon Seymour intercept passes in the fourth quarter.

Shaw has intercepted three passes, including one in each of the last two games.

He finished with eight tackles against Oregon State.

Shaw started at safety in the opener against Hawaii, the next four at cornerback, and then moved back to safety for two games before returning to cornerback against Utah.
