Friday’s top high school football games:

Long Beach Poly (10-1) vs. Ventura St. Bonaventure (8-3) at Ventura College, 7 p.m.: It’s time to find out whether St. Bonaventure’s run defense has improved since it gave up 466 yards and seven touchdowns to Tre Watson of Corona Centennial in the second game of the season. In this Pac-5 Division quarterfinal game, Poly will try to run the ball again and again. St. Bonaventure’s defense, led by linebacker Jason Farlow, will try not to get worn down or give up the big play. St. Bonaventure quarterback Ricky Town is healthy and has a huge target in tight end Bryce Dixon. The pick: Poly.

Mission Viejo (11-0) vs. Santa Ana Mater Dei (9-2) at Santa Ana Stadium, 7 p.m. (Fox Sports West Prep Zone): Mission Viejo, which hasn’t played the toughest of schedules, gets this opportunity to prove where it stands. Quarterback Ian Fieber leads a balanced attack against a very good Mater Dei defense that features defensive back Jonathan Lockett and linebacker Grant Moore. Mater Dei has started running the ball better with Justin Allen back from an injury. The pick: Mater Dei.
