Shane Mosley assesses Mayweather-Canelo super-fight [Video]

Shane Mosley is the only man to have fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, so there might be another man to ask about Saturday’s super-fight than the former three-division world champion from Pomona.

Mosley, 42, now preparing for an Oct. 23 fight in Australia against Anthony Mundine, let Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 knockouts) use his Big Bear Lake home boxing ring to train in advance of the bout against Mayweather (44-0) at MGM Grand.

Alvarez beat Mosley by decision in May 2012, and Mayweather Jr. also beat Mosley unanimously after getting rocked by him in the second round of their May 2010 bout.

“Mayweather takes a very good shot,” Mosley said in a video interview with The Times.

Mosley said he believes it’s a sound Alvarez strategy for the star Mexican fighter to be interested in “going at him strong, being right there for Mayweather to fight.”

Some expect Alvarez to weigh as much as 170 pounds Saturday after meeting the catch-weight limit of 152 pounds at Friday’s weigh-in.

“My only advice is don’t enter as if you’re going in there with a smaller fighter,” Mosley said. “Enter as if you’re going in versus the best fighter in the world.”

Mosley called the bout “a toss-up,” praising the 23-year-old Alvarez’s defensive and boxing skills.

He said Alvarez “has the ability, we’ll see if he can do it.”
