Edwin Encarnacion drops appeal
Slugger Edwin Encarnacion dropped his appeal of a one-game suspension for making contact with umpire Vic Carapazza and sat out Toronto’s final game before the All-Star break, Sunday against Detroit.
Encarnacion is hitting .267 with a team-high 23 home runs. He leads the majors with 80 runs batted in.
He was suspended for bumping Carapazza’s shoulder after being ejected after the first inning in Toronto’s 19-inning loss to Cleveland on July 1.
Encarnacion was upset for being called out on strikes to end the inning.
