Rangers’ Prince Fielder to have season-ending surgery on Friday
Texas Rangers slugger Prince Fielder will have season-ending surgery Friday for a herniated disk in his neck.
The surgery will be done in Dallas by Dr. Drew Dossett, who two years ago did a fusion of two disks just below the area that is bothering Fielder.
Fielder is batting a career-low .212 with eight home runs and 44 runs batted in.
The Rangers acquired right-hander Lucas Harrell and left-hander Dario Alvarez from the Atlanta Braves for minor league infielder Travis Demeritte. .... The Chicago White Sox put second baseman Brett Lawrie on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 22, because of a left hamstring injury. ...
San Diego put third baseman Yangervis Solarte on the family leave list. ... Washington infielder Stephen Drew was put on the DL because of dizziness. ... Colorado put reliever Jason Motte on the DL because of a right rotator cuff strain. ...
Commissioner Rob Manfred says more rule changes are needed to improve the pace of play, and he is in favor of a proposal under consideration to limit the replacement of relievers in an inning or a game.
