Update: Star English midfielder Steven Gerrard, signed by the Galaxy in January and tentatively scheduled to make his Major League Soccer debut July 17 against San Jose, will be introduced to fans at halftime. On the pitch, Los Angeles will face a Toronto offense as prolific as its own. The Galaxy leads MLS in total goals but trails Toronto in goals per match, 1.5 to 1.4. However, Toronto will be without four starters who are playing in the Gold Cup, including two of its top scorers, Jozy Altidore and captain Michael Bradley. The Galaxy back line will be missing defender Omar Gonzalez and goalkeeper Jaime Penedo to international duty. Five of Toronto’s six losses have come on the road, and the team has not beaten L.A. since 2008.
