Angels sign reliever Brandon Lyon to minor league deal
The Angels have signed veteran reliever Brandon Lyon to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, bringing to 67 the number of players they will have in camp.
Pitchers and catchers report to Tempe, Ariz., on Thursday and are to hold their first workout Friday.
Lyon, 34, has a 42-47 career record, a 4.16 earned run average and 79 saves in parts of 12 major league seasons with six clubs.
The right-hander went 2-2 with a 4.98 ERA in 37 games for the New York Mets in 2013 and 4-2 with a 3.10 ERA in 67 games for the Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays in 2012.
If Lyon makes the big league club, he will have a base salary of $1 million.
