Brady Quinn latest quarterback hopeful with New York Jets

This is how bad things have gone at quarterback for the New York Jets: They’ve signed Brady Quinn.

That’s Brady Quinn, former Notre Dame golden boy and first-round draft bust of the Cleveland Browns who is now with his fifth team in his seventh NFL season after the Seattle Seahawks cut him this weekend.

Funny stuff bouncing around the NFL. He ended up spending two seasons with the Denver Broncos but never appeared in a game, with the recently cut Tim Tebow leapfrogging Quinn to become the starter when Kyle Orton was injured in 2011.

With embattled starter Mark Sanchez nursing a shoulder injury and rookie Geno Smith returning from an ankle injury, the Jets also signed veteran Graham Harrell and have unproven Matt Simms under contract. Former Alabama star Greg McElroy was released this weekend with an injury settlement.

Quinn was the 22nd overall selection in the first round of the 2007 draft. He appeared in only one game as a rookie and started three in his second season with the Browns. Quinn got his big chance in 2009, when he went 2-7 as the starter. He completed 53.1% of his passes with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Things only went downhill from there as the Browns traded him to Denver for running back Peyton Hillis.

Last season, Quinn was a backup in Kansas City, but he started eight games when Matt Cassel was injured. Quinn went 1 for 7 with a 56.9% completion rate while throwing only two touchdown passes and eight interceptions.
