San Francisco fans got to see plenty of Darnell Dockett during his 11 seasons with NFC West rival Arizona.

Way more, as it turns out, than they will ever see of the three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle during his time as a member of the 49ers.

After signing Dockett to a two-year, $7.25-million free-agent deal during the off-season, the 49ers cut the veteran player on Friday, according to multiple media reports.

Dockett, who missed all of 2014 with a torn ACL, played very little during the preseason. On Monday he announced on Instagram that he had a cracked rib. But the next day Coach Jim Tomsula said the injury was “a cartilage thing” and that “there’s no break in any bones.”

“Nothing that will hold him from the season, or anything like that,” Tomsula said at the time.

Dockett has 40.5 career sacks and had been working as a left-side pass rusher in the team’s nickel package.
