Ducks’ Mathieu Perreault sidelined for trip, Emerson Etem recalled
Ducks second-line center Mathieu Perreault, who hasn’t scored a goal in 15 games he’s played since Halloween, did not accompany the team on its trip to Chicago and St. Louis on Thursday.
Perreault has labored through a lower-body injury for an unspecified period, a Ducks official said.
The team summoned center David Steckel and forward Emerson Etem from minor-league Norfolk on Thursday after Wednesday moving defenseman Nolan Yonkman down to Norfolk.
In Tuesday’s 3-2 shootout loss to the Kings, Perreault played just 9 minutes, 25 seconds with two shots blocked. His ninth and final shootout attempt at Kings goalie Martin Jones was easily stopped by the rookie making his NHL debut.
The Ducks went 3-0 against defending Stanley Cup-champion Chicago last season, but now enter the game against the Western Conference points leader a key man down. Perreault has five goals and 10 assists this season.
Etem returns after a three-game demotion. The Long Beach forward has six goals and four assists. Ducks Coach Bruce Boudreau said the team was hopeful at the time of Etem’s demotion that he would return and step up his energy.
Steckel, a face-off specialist, played in 21 games for the Ducks last season and had three goals and three assists for Norfolk.
