Johnny Manziel reportedly under NCAA investigation

The ongoing saga of Johnny Football just won’t end.
ESPN reported Sunday that the NCAA is investigating whether Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel was paid for signing hundreds of autographs on photos and sports memorabilia last January.
Manziel was the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy last season and led the Aggies to a Cotton Bowl victory over Oklahoma.
His off-season has been filled with missteps and misadventures. This allegation, however, is the most serious and could affect his eligibility for his third-year sophomore season.
Texas A&M is projected as a top-10 team this season and a serious national title contender.
Texas A&M spokesman issued a statement saying, “It is Texas A&M’s longstanding practice not to respond to such questions concerning specific student-athletes.”
The NCAA bylaw involved is 12.5.2.1 -- “accepting money for promoting or advertising the commercial sale of a product or service.”
Manziel certainly doesn’t need the money. His family is well off, as outlined in ESPN writer Wright Thompson’s excellent profile of Manziel.
