NASCAR penalizes woman who slapped driver Max Papis after race

NASCAR on Wednesday said it has levied a $2,500 fine against the woman who slapped driver Max Papis in the face after a truck race and has denied her “access to all NASCAR events indefinitely.”

The incident occurred Sunday after the trucks driven by Papis and Mike Skeen tangled and spun on the final lap of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Canada.

After Papis had given a post-race television interview, the Italian driver was struck by Kelly Heaphy, whom several media reports identified as Skeen’s girlfriend.

NASCAR said Heaphy was penalized “for involvement in an altercation with a competitor.”

Skeen’s crew chief, Bryan Berry, also was fined $2,500 because, as NASCAR put it, the “crew chief assumes responsibility for the actions of his team members.”
