Clippers’ J.J. Redick practices, still uncertain about his return
After practicing Thursday and Friday, Clippers guard J.J. Redick said he won’t play Saturday night and remains uncertain when he will return.
Redick did say “I don’t know” if he would need surgery for the bulging disk in his lower back.
“As long as I’m making progress, then we don’t really have to worry about that,” Redick said Friday. “I think I’ve made enough progress that I’m hopeful that I’m going to be able to avoid that.”
Part of that progress has been shooting and practicing the last two days.
But Redick still doesn’t know when he’ll play again.
He has missed the last 18 games with the injury, almost eight weeks now.
“The thought on that is as long as I’m improving, there’s a chance that I’ll be back,” Redick said. “Where I felt like maybe I had plateaued a few weeks ago, there’s definitely been some improvement in the last couple of weeks. So that’s been promising. I don’t think we’ll get to a where they’d shut me down. I think it would be the dreaded ‘S’ surgery word [surgery]. But as long as I’m improving, then I’ll avoid that.”
