Transfer De’Quan Hampton will compete at receiver for USC

USC junior receiver De’Quan Hampton, a transfer from Long Beach City College, takes part in player-run practices in June.

This month, we are previewing USC players who will join the team in training camp.

Player: De’Quan Hampton

Position: Receiver

Number: 89

Height: 6 feet 4

Weight: 220 pounds

High school: Dominguez

College: Long Beach City College

Hometown: Carson

College: Hampton caught 64 passes for 839 yards and seven touchdowns as a sophomore during the 2014 season at Long Beach City College.

USC position group breakdown: Hampton, who has two seasons of eligibility remaining, will compete at receiver against sophomore JuJu Smith and junior Isaac Whitney, according to the fall depth chart.

Hampton could also compete to back up junior Darreus Rogers, whom USC listed as a starter opposite Smith.

Smith caught 54 passes, including five touchdowns, during the 2014 season.

Whitney joined the team in January and after a slow start in spring practice, he was among the most improved in the final two weeks.

Season prediction for Hampton: Hampton will play as a backup receiver and on special teams.
