Clippers’ Alvin Gentry, Ty Lue interview for Cleveland job

Clippers associate head coach Alvin Gentry and assistant Ty Lue each interviewed Friday for the head coaching job with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Los Angeles Times has learned, and each came away encouraged.

It was the second interview with the Cavaliers for both Gentry and Lue, but it was the first time they met with Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert, said several NBA executives who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

Lue met with the Cavaliers in the morning and Gentry in the afternoon.

Gentry is a candidate for the Lakers’ head coaching vacancy, having interviewed for the job recently.

Gentry also is being strongly wooed by newly hired Golden State Coach Steve Kerr to join his staff.

Kerr is seeking to make Gentry, who has been a head coach with Miami, Detroit, the Clippers and Phoenix, the offensive assistant, the same role he had for the Clippers, the executives said.
