A Perris, Calif., city councilman was charged with multiple felonies Friday relating to a June drug incident at a Red Lion Inn.

Julio Rodriguez, 28, was charged with two felony counts of furnishing a controlled substance, one felony count of possession of a controlled substance and two misdemeanor counts -- one each of being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a news release from the Riverside district attorney’s office.

The charges stem from a June 24 incident when Rodriguez called police saying his iPad had been stolen by someone visiting his room, according to the release.

When officers arrived to investigate what happened, they found Rodriguez apparently under the influence of methamphetamine, and he had three glass smoking pipes in the motel room, according to the release.

Authorities suspect Rodriguez’s iPad was stolen during a bad drug deal, according to the release.

The investigation into the alleged theft is ongoing. No additional arrests have been made.

A warrant was issued for his arrest Thursday. It is unclear whether Rodriguez has turned himself in yet.
