Fire at recycling center closes roads, threatens power lines
More than a dozen firefighters were at the scene of a blaze at a Rancho Cucamonga recycling plant Thursday afternoon.
The fire was burning in a pile of crushed aluminum and plastic outside the All State Recycling Center in the 8800 block of Etiwanda Avenue, said Rancho Cucamonga Fire District spokeswoman Kelley Donaldson.
Twenty-four firefighters, including some from the San Bernardino County Fire Department, were at the scene.
Footage from KCAL-TV Channel 9 showed black and gray smoke billowing around the plant.
Donaldson said there are no nearby homes or businesses, but firefighters are keeping an eye on power lines above.
“The fire extended into the brush, but we stopped [it] before a greater fire happened,” Donaldson said. “There is no damage to the building.”
The recycling center was evacuated. California Highway Patrol and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department have blocked off a portion of Etiwanda Avenue intersecting with Arrow Route.
Authorities are unsure how the fire started.
