The daughter of former Laker Robert Horry died at age 17 after dealing her entire life with a rare genetic condition.

Ashlyn Horry died early Tuesday morning at a Houston hospital, Horry said.

“My little girl was the light of my life and my family’s,” Horry said in a brief phone interview. “It’s been tough, but we were blessed to have her for the time we did.”

Ashlyn was Robert’s first child. He has a son, Cameron.

She had severe respiratory issues and other complications. The Times wrote a story about Ashlyn in which her condition was called “a neurological syndrome that mimics cerebral palsy.”

Her disorder became known as the 1p36 deletion syndrome. It is caused when a child is born missing a part of chromosome No. 1

Horry spent 16 years in the NBA, winning three championships with the Lakers, two with the Houston Rockets and two more with the San Antonio Spurs.

“I want to thank all the fans and my friends for their prayers and thoughts,” Horry said. “I can’t tell you how much we appreciate all the outpouring of support.”
