Boys’ basketball: Redondo advances in Las Vegas, will face Centennial

Redondo advanced to the semifinals of its division of the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas on Thursday after an 82-74 win over Chino Hills.

Billy Preston contributed 12 points and 15 rebounds. Lonzo Ball had 20 points for Chino Hills. Redondo will play No. 1-ranked Corona Centennial in Friday’s semifinals. Cententennial defeated West Linn, 65-48, behind a 30-point performance from point guard Sedrick Barefield. Khalil Ahmad added 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Windward lost to Bountiful, 49-46. Long Beach Poly defeated Maranatha, 60-33. Jordan Dallas scored 14 points for Poly.

In the Western League, Fairfax (5-0) began play with a 79-33 win over Hamilton. Donald Gipson scored 16 points, Jeremy Hamilton had 14, Lorne Currie 12 and Lindsey Drew added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

In the San Fernando Valley Invitational, Crespi defeated Camarillo, 60-49. De’Anthony Melton scored 15 points and Mitchell Mykhaylov had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Crescenta Valley received 15 points from Gabriel Ajemian in a 75-60 win over North Hollywood. Chaminade defeated Kennedy, 85-25, after making 17 three-pointers. Michael Oguine scored 19 points.

Cathedral (2-0), showing the effects of few practices because of finals, wasn’t particularly impressive in a 67-40 win over Simi Valley. Kobe Paras, in his season debut, had four points on two of 10 shooting. He left the game with two fouls in the second quarter and never returned. Milan Acquaah finished with 15 points and Leandro Amador added 13.

Bennie Boatwright scored 39 points in Village Christian’s 87-55 win over Chatsworth. Kahlil Simplis had 20 points and 10 assists. Alemany defeated Agoura, 74-51, with Shacquille Dawkins scoring 22 points and Daron Henson 19.

In Hawaii, Orange Lutheran defeated Georgia Miller Grove, 40-38. CJ Hankins had 13 points and Keisean Lucier-South added 12 points. Garfield defeated Kealakehe, 58-43. Stevie Williams had 16 points.

In Florida in the City of Palms tournament, Sierra Canyon was beaten by Kentucky Trinity, 70-59. Cody Riley scored 24 points for Sierra Canyon (1-1).

Huntington Beach Edison defeated Servite, 57-39. Brad Ivey led Edison with 19 points. Trevor Treinen had 24 poitns for Servite.

In the Inland Empire Classic, Etiwanda defeated Canyon Springs, 71-50. Delewis Johnson and Garrett Carter each had 16 points. Rancho Cucamonga defeated Alta Loma, 70-56. Braxton Shaw scored 21 points. Etiwanda will play Temecula Valley in a 6 p.m. semifinal, with Rancho Cucamonga taking on Redlands East Valley at 7:30 p.m. at Rancho Cucamonga.

Sun Valley Poly defeated North Torrance, 92-73. Cesar Reyes and Jose Esqueda had 22 points apiece.

Valley Torah defeated Flintridge Prep, 72-60. Jake Althouse scored 24 points for Flintridge Prep. Simcha Mernio had 18 for Valley Torah.
