The Times’ high school all-star football team

Offense

OL: Marcus Martin, Crenshaw, 6-4, 310, senior -- The top offensive lineman in the City Section helped the Cougars win their second consecutive Division I championship. He played offensive guard and is committed to USC.

OL: Max Tuerk, Santa Margarita, 6-6, 255, junior -- His play at left tackle and occasional action on the defensive line helped the Eagles go from 3-7 to 9-3 and advance to a Pac-5 quarterfinal. He was co-lineman of the year in the Trinity League.

OL: Troy Niklas, Servite, 6-6, 245, senior -- He dominated on both sides of the ball during Trinity League play and kept it up during the playoffs for the Pac-5 champions. A former tight end, Niklas made a smooth transition to full-time blocker.

OL: Akeem Gonzales, Alemany, 6-4, 240, senior -- Whether blocking or playing defense, Gonzales was the key lineman in Alemany’s rise to a Pac-5 semifinal. He led the Warriors to their first Serra League championship.

OL: Jacob Olsson, Corona Centennial, 6-2, 260, senior -- Olsson came back from a torn knee ligament to lead one of the most productive lines in Southern California, playing center and helping the team win the Inland Division championship.

OL: Luke Meyer, St. Bonaventure, 6-3, 270, senior -- He was the lineman of the year in the Marmonte League. He gave up one sack all season on a line that allowed only five.

WR: George Farmer, Serra, 6-2, 210, senior -- At a position considered the best in the Southland, the USC-bound Farmer separated himself with his speed and big-play skills. He caught 65 passes for 1,514 yards and 14 touchdowns.

WR: Mike Thomas, Taft, 6-3, 185, senior -- Thomas set school records with 86 receptions for 1,656 yards and 21 touchdowns, quite an improvement from his junior year, when he didn’t catch a pass.

WR: Richard Mullaney, Thousand Oaks, 6-3, 185, senior -- The Oregon State commit set a state record with 122 receptions for 1,703 yards and 20 touchdowns. He had 20 catches in a playoff loss to Oaks Christian.

QB: Michael Eubank, Corona Centennial, 6-5, 220, senior -- He passed for 2,831 yards and 22 touchdowns and ran for 1,329 yards and 19 touchdowns in directing an offense that averaged 54 points a game.

RB: Kelsey Young, Norco, 5-10, 190, senior -- The Stanford-bound Young rushed for 2,008 yards and scored 30 touchdowns, using speed, power and durability.

RB: Steven Manfro, Valencia, 5-10, 185, senior -- He averaged 11.3 yards a carry with 2,553 yards rushing, and scored 41 touchdowns. In two seasons, he contributed 75 touchdowns and rushed for more than 4,200 yards.

PK: Jake Van Ginkel, Upland, 6-0, 170, senior -- He made 14 of 20 field goals and kicked 47 of 65 kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks. He set a state record with 39 career field goals.

Defense

DL: Todd Barr, Lakewood, 6-3, 265, senior -- Using mobility and strength, Barr recorded a school-record 20 sacks and had 35 tackles for losses. He has committed to California.

DL: Jeremiah Allison, Dorsey, 6-0, 190, junior -- A 20-sack season gives him 40 in two years. He’s a defensive end who charges quarterbacks like a linebacker.

DL: Eric Schneider, St. Bonaventure, 6-2, 215, senior -- He had 75 tackles, including 15 sacks, blocked a punt, made an interception and caused two fumbles in helping the Seraphs to an 11-2 record.

DL: Dillon van der Wal, Oaks Christian, 6-7, 235, senior -- This basketball player turned football player became a relentless pass rusher, recording 22 sacks for the Northern Division champions.

LB: Ryan Jack, Corona Centennial, 6-1, 220, senior -- He was the leading tackler for the Inland Division champions, seemingly involved wherever the ball was on the field. He’s committed to San Diego State.

LB: Butch Pauu, Servite, 6-0, 210, junior -- The school that produced Chris Galippo has another middle linebacker with similar passion and effectiveness. Pauu’s ability to tackle and make plays keyed one of the best defenses in the Southland.

LB: Tre Madden, Mission Viejo, 6-1, 215, senior -- Athleticism, instincts and desire were the strengths of the versatile Madden, who roamed the field on defense and also contributed as a quarterback in the wildcat formation for Pac-5 finalist Mission Viejo. He is committed to USC.

DB: De’Anthony Thomas, Crenshaw, 5-9, 165, senior -- He was a standout at safety, intercepting two passes in the City Division I final. He also averaged 11 yards a carry when used as a running back. Committed to USC, Thomas set a standard for excellence that will be hard to duplicate.

DB: Marqise Lee, Serra, 6-1, 185, senior -- A speedster and versatile safety, Lee was an invaluable weapon over the last two seasons when Serra went 29-1 and won two section titles.

DB: Nelson Spruce, Westlake, 6-2, 190, senior -- Versatility and excellence describe the contributions of Spruce, who was the defensive back of the year from the Marmonte League and also caught 18 touchdown passes. He is committed to Colorado.

DB: Karlton Dennis, Servite, 5-9, 170, senior -- A two-year starter at cornerback, Dennis’ ability to cover receivers helped the Friars win consecutive Pac-5 Division championships.
