Clippers’ Blake Griffin avoids foul trouble in Game 2 win

Somehow, the physical Blake Griffin escaped being whistled for any fouls during the Clippers’ 138-98 demolition of the Golden State Warriors on Monday night in Game 2 of their first-round Western Conference playoff series at Staples Center.
That freedom allowed Griffin to score a playoff-career-high 35 points, helping the Clippers even the best-of-seven series at 1-1.
Griffin had fouled out of Game 1, playing just 19 minutes, 14 seconds. He scored just 16 points in that game.
In Game 2, Griffin played 29:32 without a single fouled being called on him.
“First of all, I just wanted to not foul as much, not put myself in that position,” Griffin said. “But I still just wanted to be aggressive and not let how Game 1 went affect the way I play for the rest of the series.”
The Clippers now have to play Game 3 on Thursday in Oakland and Game 4 there as well. The Clippers have lost five consecutive games in Oakland, 15 of their last 17.
“It’s a long series, a very long series,” Griffin said. “As you saw tonight, we’re better than we were in Game 1.”
