Rookie Gordon scores 33 in victory

STOCKTON -- Kevin Martin scored 29 points in less than 22 minutes for Sacramento, but rookie Eric Gordon scored 33 points and led the Clippers’ fourth-quarter rally for a 116-112 victory over the Kings in an exhibition game Wednesday night.

Gordon, the seventh overall draft pick from Indiana, looked sharp in only his second exhibition season appearance after sitting out much of training camp because of a sprained right ankle.

In addition to the go-ahead free throws with 1:42 to play, Gordon made six three-point baskets for the Clippers, who had plenty of spark despite playing in Oklahoma City on Tuesday night.

Fellow rookie Mike Taylor had another impressive game with 21 points and nine assists for the Clippers, who are unbeaten in three exhibition games.

Cuttino Mobley scored 17 points and Jelani McCoy had 12 for the Clippers, who held the Kings scoreless after Bobby Jackson’s free throw with 2:54 to play.

Although the Kings made 24 turnovers while their reserves blew a 17-point lead, Martin looks ready to begin his first season as Sacramento’s leader after the departures of Ron Artest and Mike Bibby. The guard made nine of 11 shots, including two three-pointers, before sitting out the final minutes.

The Clippers erased a 10-point deficit from early in the fourth quarter on Gordon’s three-pointer with 5:05 to play.

The Clippers went ahead, 108-107, on Gordon’s layup moments later, but the Kings held the lead on free throws by Francisco Garcia and Jackson until Taylor’s tying jumper with 2:13 left.

Garcia scored 15 points for the Kings, and Jackson and Spencer Hawes had 13 apiece.

Clippers guard Baron Davis did not make the trip because of flu.

Forward Al Thornton did not play because of a sore right wrist suffered in Tuesday’s exhibition game at Oklahoma City.
