San Diego firefighters stopped a South Mission Beach house fire in 10 minutes Thursday, before it could enter an adjoining apartment building. The fire broke out at 1:34 p.m. in a single-story house on Vanitie Court. Fire Department spokesman Bob Radder said that when firefighters arrived, the flames were lapping over the patio of the two-story apartment building next door. The blaze caused $35,000 damage to the three-bedroom house and burned a patio roof of the apartment building before it was extinguished. The intense heat cracked windows at the apartment building. No one was in the house when the blaze broke out. Radder said the fire was caused by “unattended smoking materials.”
